متن کاملCongenital cytomegalovirus infection in a neonatal intensive care unit in brazil evaluated by PCR and association with perinatal aspects.
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is the most common congenital infection, affecting 0.4% to 2.3% newborns. Most of them are asymptomatic at birth, but later 10% develop handicaps, mainly neurological disturbances. Our aim was to determine the prevalence of CMV shed in urine of newborns from a neonatal intensive care unit using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and correlate positive cases to s...

Maternal infection with a number of viruses during pregnancy and in the peripartum period can result in transmission of the virus to the fetus and newborn infant. In some cases these infections in newborn infant can result in significant morbidity and mortality, depending on the specific viral agent, the age of virus acquisition, and perhaps more importantly, characteristics of the maternal inf...

surgery has led to a reduction in febrile morbidity rates (Qvistad et al. 1983; Crowley et al. 2001). If screening is not practical, many clinics and practitioners routinely treat all women receiving surgical abortion for chlamydia presumptively and, in high prevalence areas, would treat for gonorrhea as well. Intrauterine infection may be the result of hematogenous or ascending infection. For ...
